Bobcats may trade trade Dampier eventually

Bobcats confirm that the Bobcats will eventually waive Erick Dampier in grizzlies jerseys and his $13 million contract.

The Kwame Brown in minnesota timberwolves jersey signing sealed Dampier's fate. They would obviously like to trade the bumbling big man, but it's not going to happen. The Bobcats are a small-market team that want to be slashing payroll, not taking a $13 million contract back. "The conversations have been had around the league," said GM Rod Higgins. "I don't know if there's going to be anything that subsequently gets done." Charlotte couldn't take back more than $5 million in salary without triggering the luxury tax, so a blockbuster deal would be difficult to pull off. "It's going to take a while," Higgins in timberwolves jerseys said. "Now that we've got another center [Kwame Brown], waiving him for the sake of waiving him doesn't make a whole lot of sense for us." The Bobcats frontcourt, supported by Nazr Mohammed in new orleans hornets jersey and DeSagana Diop in hornets jerseys, still needs obvious help, and neither side has ruled out the idea of Dampier re-signing in Charlotte.

Higgins' cellphone is busy these days. Starting Monday, 60 days after the Bobcats acquired Dampier from Dallas, the Bobcats can package his contract in another multi-player deal. It's a chance for the Bobcats to hand off Dampier's contract to another team seeking to reduce payroll and get a key player in return. That means just two weeks before teams open training camp, Dampier in chris paul jersey has no idea where he'll play this season — or for what salary. It's all because he failed to achieve the playing-time clause in his seven-year, US$73-million deal last season, making the last year non-guaranteed.

Once Dampier in chris paul jerseys is off the books, the Bobcats would be about $5 million below the luxury tax, so they won't take back more than that in salary in any deal for Dampier in thunder jerseys. That makes a blockbuster deal difficult unless it's a multi-team trade.

But there is motivation for a team that's already into luxury tax territory. Acquiring Dampier for equal salary and then waiving him would save $26 million this season, his salary plus the tax. So Higgins in oklahoma city thunder jersey expects to be busy starting Monday — all because of a contract that couldn't be duplicated today. In 2004, the luxury tax wasn't in effect every season and teams could re-sign their own players in kevin durant jersey to seven-year deals, one year longer than allowed in the current labour contract. Entering free agency after averaging a career-best 12.3 points and 12 rebounds, the Warriors packaged Dampier in a trade with Dallas that involved eight players in durant jersey and two draft picks.

Erick Dampier in phoenix suns jersey, the 35-year-old center out of Jackson, Mississippi, is the latest name to possibly be heading down to South Beach to team up with LeBron James, Dwyane Wade, and Chris Bosh. This move is much needed for the Heat, as they lack a big presence down low. Dampier would certainly boost the depth at center, which currently stands at Joel Anthony and Zydrunas Ilgauskas. And if Dampier is successfully added by the Heat, it would mean more headaches for opposing teams each night. Most of the Heat's critics have centered their skepticism around the Heat's lack of an efficient starting center, and this move should certainly be enough to silence those who doubt.
