Again, Eagles QB McNabb blamed himself for team’s loss

Two days after the Philadelphia Eagles lost Sunday’s season finale 24-0 to the Dallas Cowboys, the five-time Pro Bowl quarterback Donovan McNabb pointed the finger at himself for failing to lead the team to a win.

“It all starts with me. I have to raise my level of play, and everyone else has to as well,” McNabb said. “What I meant is, we have a young team, and a lot of things we were doing just were very uncharacteristic of what we did all throughout the year. I wasn’t blaming it on anyone, by any means.”

If beating the Cowboys, the Eagles would have clinched their sixth NFC East title in nine years and secured the No. 2 seed and a first-round bye. But now what they’ve got is only a wild-card playoff berth. A lot of people criticized McNabb for subpar performance against the Cowboys in one of his finest seasons, and McNabb accepted it, although several important passes were dropped by receivers, especially the one dropped by Jeremy Maclin, who is in his first year of playing pro football in NFL jersey. Maclin dropped a slightly off-target pass that should’ve been caught for a big gain and possibly a score.

As the team’s leader who has led the Eagles to five NFC championship games and one Super Bowl in his 10 seasons, McNabb should have been given more honor than critics.
